Have you ever been told, “Never, ever talk about religion and politics in polite conversation” ?  Well we, The Oklahoma Sponsoring Committee, think it's well past time to break that rule, and we're putting the call out to local visual and spoken word artists to join us.

The Oklahoma Sponsoring Committee is a coalition of religious institutions, non-profits, and public schools in metro Oklahoma City who have dared to come together for a conversation about what’s happening to families and individuals in our current economy.  Through our conversations we have identified issues that our diverse network of member institutions can join together to address:  immigration, public school education, senior economic issues, economic justice, infrastructure, health care, family support, and public transportation and a new addition:  prison justice.

Purpose		Breaking the Rules: An Evening of Religion, Politics, & Art (in Polite Conversation) is a show that would challenge local artists to channel the anger that is palpable in our community around economic injustice into provocative works of visual and spoken art. We are asking for pieces that focus on our agenda of issues:  immigration, public school education, senior economic issues,  economic justice, infrastructure, health care, family support, and public transportation and a new addition: prison justice. This show will also serve as a fund-raiser for our organization so we can continue to work with other organizations in the city to oppose harsh anti-immigration laws, work against the proposed OG&E rate hike, work with public schools to help parents be heros for their children, and to build our relationships between our institutions in order to move forward on our agenda of issues.
